Maisonette Herenmarkt is a residential interior design project in Amsterdam by Studio Elèn Letort, set within an early seventeenth-century canal house on the historic Herenmarkt. 

An intimate home in the vibrant centre of Amsterdam’s Jordaan neighbourhood, designed as a deeply considered and poetic space. It reflects the character of a place shaped by travel, collected objects and personal history. Original beams running through the home formed an important starting point for the design. New elements were developed to sit naturally within this context, balancing the building’s classical character with a more precise, modern sensibility. Rich wood tones, natural stone, stainless steel, ribbed glass and soft neutral walls create depth and tactility throughout the interior. The kitchen forms the heart of the home. Warm walnut cabinetry, rounded forms and brushed metal surfaces give the space a sense of clarity and refinement, while fluted glass adds rhythm, reflection and lightness. Burgundy accents appear throughout the interior, from the artwork by Claire Witteveen to the deep marble in the guest bathroom, creating a quiet connection between the different spaces. On the top floor, the master bathroom was designed as a lighter and more serene environment. A custom green marble washbasin forms a sculptural centrepiece, combined with soft tiles, warm wood and mirrored surfaces to create a calm place to unwind. In contrast, the guest bathroom explores a more intimate atmosphere, with walnut wood, brushed copper and burgundy marble forming a compact, cocoon-like space. 

Throughout the home, archival design, contemporary pieces, personal objects and bespoke details come together naturally. The result is a layered

residential interior in which old and new, collected and custom-made are quietly connected.
